This year is fast coming to an end. I would like to reflect on some of the positives that the city has accomplished over the year. We have a brand new park on I Street. It’s name, “Pioneer Park,” brings to mind all the previous people of the community who made Tehachapi what it is today.

Curry Street was repaved and in addition, new sidewalks were added. Numerous new businesses have joined the community, such as Starbucks, Que’ Pasa Restaurant and Don Perico's along with several new small businesses, demonstrating that whether you’re a newcomer or an oldtimer, it’s not size, but quality and friendly service that matters in Tehachapi.

The Farmer's Market was bigger and much better this year, bringing the community together in our beautiful downtown each week. A new mural was also added with the promise of many more to come. A new General Plan, incorporating the Design Planning concept, is currently being revised. A new City Hall is also in the works for the coming year.

Last, but not least the city has a brand new police department that became a reality this past July 1.

In many ways, all the above has had a very positive impact on our lives. While the positives certainly outweigh the negatives, let us not forget that there were some growing pains to deal with. However, with our growth we have also gained a maturing attitude that reflects why Tehachapi’s Quality of Life is what it is today. I know without any doubt that my children and grandchildren have never had so much to be thankful for as we do now, in Tehachapi. That is why they stay and why others will do the same.

Quality of Life isn't automatic; It takes time, effort and a willingness to make it through the growing pains to experience life in full bloom. I'm here to tell you that Tehachapi has done all of that. Now we have to work to keep it that way.
If someone you know does not think our way of life is good, then kindly let them know they can always make room for someone else who would love to live in and contribute to the Quality of Life in our beautiful mountain town.

Have a wonderful week and remember to smile and to be kind.
