The Junior High and High School youth groups of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church joined forces for the tenth year to supply Christmas presents to children of prisoners here in Tehachapi. First, money was raised through work days, raking, trimming bushes and trees, painting and weed pulling as well as collecting cans and bottles. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans contributed to the effort with their “Care in Communities” program.
Working with the “Angel Tree” names supplied by the Christian organization “Prison Fellowship” each teen was given a wish list of a specific child. They then selected an item of clothing and a toy during a shopping spree at K-Mart. Back at the church each teen wrapped the presents for “their child” and families drove around town delivering the presents. Of the many service projects the youth perform, they all agree this is their annual favorite.
Special thanks to K-Mart for the discounts and The California High Desert Chapter of Thrivent for their support. More children were included because of their assistance.
