Speculation about the future of Tehachapi’s real estate market abound, but a group of young, local builders are experimenting with new housing opportunities on a smaller scale. A much smaller scale.
“It’s a sticky situation,” said one of a group of young builders who have created a small, but elite housing development, known as North Tehacha-Pole, “But they’re just eating it up. We can’t build ‘em fast enough!”
While the accommodations have been lauded for both their tasteful design and environmentally friendly construction, critics maintain that, “Size does matter.”
Still, the new developers remain positive that in today’s economy, “Less really is more.” They hope to feed consumers’ need for simplicity while the lower construction costs only “sweeten the deal.”
“It’s just the icing on the cake,” said a member of Tehachapi’s Gingerbread Design team, who hopes the new development’s smaller scale will attract a new group of consumers who are fed up with the lack of creativity demonstrated by the “cookie cutter” housing industry.
