Visitation for Matt Johnson was held at Basham Funeral Care on Jan. 9, 2008. Funeral services were held in the Basham Funeral Care Chapel on January 10, 2008. Interment followed at Greenlawn Southwest Cemetery.

Matt was born in El Paso, Texas on June 28, 1982. He fought Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy courageously and valiantly to the very end. He showed us how to care for others and how to face difficulty head on. He fought to make life better for others with all his heart. He was an MDA ambassador for Kern County. He was also involved in student government at CSUB.

Matt loved everyone around him, especially his family. He has gone ahead to Heaven to meet his Nana, Grandpa, Aunt Connie and Uncle David there. He is survived by his mother and father, Mariana and Bob Johnson; sister, Amanda Summerford; brother, Clayton Summerford; sister, Charlotte Johnson; sister and brother-in-law, Victory and Dan Nichols; sister and brother-in-law, Kristina and Skye Otten; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jenifer Johnson and brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Tori Johnson. He leaves behind two beautiful babies, his female Maltese puppies, Laker and Maddie. He also leaves behind many special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Matt graduated from Tehachapi High School in 2001, from BC with an Associates degree in 2004 and from CSUB with a degree in Communications this past December. He loved sports (especially the Lakers), professional wrestling, reality TV, beautiful women and Dr. Pepper but most of all he loved his family and friends. He will be missed, but we know we will see him again. Matt died from Muscular Dystrophy on Saturday, January 5, 2008 surrounded by his family and friends. We will not forget all he taught us about life. The family would like to say a special thank you to Frances, Pippi, Jenny, Tiffany, Sheila and all of the other Hoffmann Hospice “hotties” who Matt called his Angels.
