0 responses 0 comments Theodore R. Cortez Sr. passed away on Friday, Jan. 11, 2008 at Wittier Presbyterian Hospital. He was born in Tehachapi on April 1, 1918; served in the U.S. Navy from March 1945 to March 1946, and was in the Pacific on the U.S.S. Marsh. He worked in mining, agriculture, sanitation, and landscaping in Kern County.
His father, Odilon Cortez, mother, Adelaida Gonsalves, sisters, Florencia Dabalos and Isabel Cervantes, and daughter, Agnes Cortez, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Cortez; son Theodore Cortez Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Adele and Jerry Embry Sr.; grandson, Jerry Embry Jr.; great-granddaughter, Sofia Embry; step children, Frank Cerbantez, Shirley Tracy, and Ruby Thacker; ex-wife, Frances Cortez; five brothers and sisters in Fremont, Sacramento, Fresno, and Chino; and many cousins and nephews.
Mr. Cortez requested cremation and no services, however, the rosary was recited at 10 a.m. at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in Tehachapi on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008.
