Our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A retired peace officer sworn to serve and protect.

Our protector and now our constant angel from above, who loved his family, friends and life, Richard VanBurkleo died peacefully with family on Jan. 6, 2008.

Born in Los Angeles on Feb. 25, 1933, to Harry and Hildreth VanBurkleo,  Richard (Dad) loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, his dogs, horses, birds and George, his cat. Dad enjoyed sitting outside on his stump puffing on his pipe.

His sense of humor will be missed, and we will always remember how he made us laugh. He was never one to sit if something needed to be done — He was a jack of all trades.

To our beautiful Dad, all our love, your children, Richard and Traci VanBurkleo, Denise McAuliffe, Kathleen VanBurkleo, Cynthia Curley and Elisabeth Heer; grandchildren, Richard Lee, Krystal, Richard James, Harrison, Dominick, Jake, Jennifer and Kristoffer; great-granddaughter Stella; and extended family, Cheri and Ken, Chrissy and Michael, Cindy and Michael and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, who passed away on Nov. 16, 2007. He loved her very much and is now with her again.

Dad we were blessed to have you in life. Our hearts ache that you are not with us now. We will see you in heaven. All our love.

A funeral service will be held at a later date.
