Genevieve Bee Lee passed away on Jan. 10 after a lengthy illness. She was 89 years old.
Genevieve was born April 24, 1918, in Tulare to George Franklin Bowen and Mary Caroline (Hamblin) Bowen.
She grew up in central and southern California, graduating from high school in Tustin. She met and married Robert Bullock in 1936. Robert died in a flying accident in 1950.
She married Harold Lee in 1952 in Corcoran. He died in 1981 and she moved to Tehachapi in the early 1990’s to be near her family.
Genevieve’s son, Robert Bruce Bullock, died in 2006. She is survived by her three daughters, Barbara Teague of Tehachapi, Melinda Squibb of La Jolla, and Jennifer Carver of Deer Island, Oregon, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Genevieve was intensely curious, independent, and actively involved in life - from learning to fly an open cockpit airplane to learning to fish. She was a long time volunteer in the local Respite program.
She was never happier than when she could be outside, tending to her garden. She was an organic gardener before it was fashionable. Somehow she always managed to have fresh flowers on the table, even in winter and her vegetable garden was always the wonder of the neighborhood.
She was an avid reader, knitter, seamstress, stone polisher, creative cook, bird watcher, wry sense of humor, and was a role model for her children.
She was deeply loved by her family and she will be missed beyond words.
Arrangements have been made with Wood Family Funeral Service for a cremation which will be followed by a private family gathering.
