Nelta Marcille Van Kopp passed away in Bakersfield on January 22, 2008 following an extended period of illness.

Marcie was born August 22, 1923 in Canton, Texas. Her parents were DeVera Parker and James Malcolm Parker. One of Marcie’s more noted ancestors was one of the last of the great Apache chiefs, Quanah Parker.

Missing Marcie is her husband of 61 years, Ed Van Kopp, son Stan Van Kopp and wife Carol; grandson Ian and wife Tawney; son Cliff Van Kopp and wife Kristi; sons Sam, Miles, and Mark. She’ll also be missed by many other relatives and friends.

Marcie was the secretary to the commandant of the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station when she met the young Ens. Ed Van Kopp. They were married July 19, 1946. Marcie and Ed traveled the world following Ed’s career first in the Navy and then with McDonnell Aircraft Corporation. Some of the places they lived were California, Tennessee, Missouri, Texas, New Mexico, New York, Guam, Japan, Germany and Israel.

Of all the places they lived, Tehachapi and Bear Valley Springs won their hearts and they retired there in 1982. Marcie made great friends playing golf and bridge in Bear Valley. She loved solving crosswords, assembling jigsaw puzzles, and reading one or two books a week.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, January 28, 2008 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 329 S. Mill Street.
