Russell Gordon Mckenzie (Rusty), age 52, passed away in his home the evening of Feb. 6, 2008. Rusty was the son of Jim and Virginia Womack, who are residents of Oak Knolls. Rusty was born Aug. 12, 1955 with Downs Syndrome. He was adopted by the Womack family when he was 6-years-old.

Rusty participated in Tehachapi’s Special Olympics Bowling Team and attended Bakersfield’s New Avances for People with Disabilities Special Education Program. Rusty volunteered his services with his mother and brother Sparky at the Tehachapi Guild and Hospital. He was great at greeting the patients at their bedsides, and brought a smile to all he came in contact with.

Rusty was a great inspiration to all that knew him. He was always the life of the party. Rusty will be remembered for his affectionate demeanor, his outgoing personality and his love of music, dancing and food. Rusty was always capable of finding the humor in any situation, and was able to bring a smile to your face. Rusty kept his child-like charm and playfulness throughout his life, being an ambassador of goodwill.

Rusty is survived by his brothers, George Benson, Jimmy and David Womack, Nicholas Sparkhul, and his sisters, Cynthia Benson and Suzann Andelin. He will be missed by the Womack’s six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Rusty attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where services will be held on Friday morning, Feb. 15. The viewing will be from 9 - 9:45 a.m.; funeral service from 10 - 11 a.m. The gravesite services will immediately follow, at Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Eastside, Barnett Road. In lieu of flowers, please send your donations to Mountain Pathways, 311 West F Street, Tehachapi, CA 93561, or call 667-205-7952. Wood Family Funeral Services, Inc. handled the arrangements.
