Long-time resident of Tehachapi, Ellamae Rosie Thatcher, passed peacefully in her sleep, at her daughter's home in Colorado, on Dec. 27, 2007.
Ellamae was born in Gardena, California, in 1919. She and her husband raised their four children in Hawthorne, Calif. Upon retiring in 1978, they moved to Tehachapi, where they lived until, her husband, Richard “Dick” Thatcher passed away in 2002.
They were both proud and active members of the VFW for 55 years. Ellamae enjoyed her years of participation as an officer in the Ladies Auxiliary, and in later years, as a volunteer cooking hamburgers at the VFW Bingo nights in Tehachapi.
Her surviving family will remember her with love and fond memories. They are: sons, Richard, of Simi, Clifford, of Bakersfield, Reginald, of Casa Grande, Ariz., and daughter, Peggy, of Bloomfield, Colo., as well as, grandchildren Kim, Tracey, Rochelle, Lance, Kelly and Kyle, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Jan. 10, 2008, in Colorado, with interment at a veteran's cemetery nearby. When weather permits, local family members will have a celebration of her life at her favorite place to picnic with her family, Mountain Park.
