The Tehachapi Unified School District put into action a district-wide safety drill, ensuring that the district wide safety plan components are implemented effectively. This is the first district-wide drill. These drills will be held on an annual basis to ensure the district and its personnel are prepared in the case of a real emergency to assure the safety of students and staff.
The district emergency drill involved the following components:
1) At the site level an earthquake drill was announced through intercom systems.
2) Schools and district sites implemented their safety and evacuation procedures
3) The District Office declared itself the Incident Command Center and then began the district-wide emergency communications system, with all sites.
4) After establishing communications with all school sites and ensuring that all site plans had been successfully implemented, Superintendent Dr. Swanson who was serving as the incident commander declared an “all clear.”
The Tehachapi Unified School District views this as a successful step towards implementing plans and procedures that secure the safety and well being of students and staff.
