Hard work and sacrifice has paid off for two Tehachapi High School administrators with the recent announcement that Ed Cheek and Bev Thompson have been named the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) administrator of the year in two competitive categories (secondary co-administrator and valuing diversity).
Each year, California school leaders are hand-selected throughout a highly-competitive process throughout the state for regional recognition, and Ed Cheek and Bev Thompson have been tapped as two of the area’s best in Kings, Tulare, Kern, and Inyo/Mono county region.
“It’s nice to get the award but really it’s a reflection of what we are all doing here at THS,” said THS vice-principal Ed Cheek. “This award is as much the school’s as it is mine and it’s a great thing that our region is recognizing all the good things that are happening here.”
By winning the award, Cheek and Thompson have shown that they have demonstrated high marks in ACSA’s standards for strong support for the school management team, exceptional leadership in managing school programs, commitment to educational quality and student achievement, commitment to professional growth, and creativity and innovation with issues and problems facing public education.
Specifically, Cheek won the secondary co-administrator award and Thompson won the valuing diversity award for ACSA Region XI.
With the regional honors, both individuals will compete with other nominations throughout the state for California top-honors in each category.
Both Cheek and Thompson will receive their official recognition and award at Hodel’s Restaurant in Bakersfield on May 1.
