The big guns are back, and optimism is high for the Warriors to re-claim their spot as the champion of the South Sequoia League.
After two mini-tournaments at North Kern and Sycamore Canyon, Tehachapi is in good position to their championship end goal after two consecutive second place finishes in both meets.
The Warriors’ Grant Rosander turned in the mini-tournaments second low card overall with an even-par 72 at Sycamore Canyon this past week, followed by Jacob Booth with 81, Brandon Matchett with 86, Jordan Carr with 89, and Jared Steinbach with a 97.
Bakersfield Christian High School won the second mini-tournament with a team score of 413, followed by Tehachapi with 425. More importantly, however, Tehachapi’s score was good enough to overtake third place Taft (460), giving all three teams 16 points in the league title standings.
The prior week, SSL mini-tourney play experienced a bizarre occurrence when the sixth golfer score was needed for Tehachapi, Bakersfield Christian and Taft when all three teams came back to the clubhouse with identical 423 team scores.
Taft was able to log in the tournament win after their sixth-man carded a 99, followed by Tehachapi’s Leigh Stone with 100, and Bakersfield Christian’s sixth golfer with 101.
Overall top scores had Jacob Booth and Grant Rosander with 80s, Jordan Carr with an 87, Brandon Matchett with an 88, and Bryan Burris with an 88.
In pre-season play, Tehachapi was able to bring in a 447 score at Antelope Valley Country Club last Monday with Jared Steinbach carding an 85, Grant Rosander an 86, Jacob Booth an 88, Jordan Carr a 93, Tyler Carr a 95, and Kevin Greene a 95.
The Warriors will be in action again next Thursday (March 27) at Buena Vista Golf Course off Taft Highway in the third stop of the SSL tour. Tee-off is set for 1 p.m.
