Currently sporting an 8-1 season mark, the Tehachapi Starlings U-14 (age 14 and under) volleyball team has won three tournaments and has lost only once against competition from across the state.

The tournament victories include one at the American Sports Center in Anaheim, Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa and at Coronado High School in San Diego.
“The girls started the season playing well together and have continued to improve every game,” said head coach Leanna Delgadillo.

The team is comprised of seventh and eighth grade girls, and includes Amanda Borst, Carley Cass, Colleen Chung, Jade Delgadillo, Megan Johnson, Jasmine Julye, Casey Miller, Vallarie Neang, Savannah Olofson, and Danielle Villa.

Statistical leaders in serving are Colleen Chung with 76, Danielle Villa with 74, and Jade Delgadillo with 72 serves. The players with the highest serving percentage are Jade Delgadillo with 94 percent, Megan Johnson with 90 percent, and Colleen Chung and Casey Miller with 85 percent accuracy. The setters with the most assists are Jade Delgadillo with 42, Savannah Olofson with 33, and Amanda Borst with 29. Leading the hitting category is Colleen Chung with 67, Jasmine Julye with 52, and Jade Delgadillo with 37 hits.

“Usually it takes a team half of the season before they start playing well together,” added Delgadillo. “This team started the first game strong and has continued to work well together. It’s like magic on the court.”
