Six of Tehachapi’s most talented young athletes took center stage earlier this month at the 2008 Southern California Men’s Gymnastics Association (SCMGA) North Conference Championships, taking home a Level 8 team trophy and impressive individual results overall.
Competing for Tehachapi included Josh Archie, Drew Archie, Anthony Sandt, Kirk Karnes, Trevor Stevens, and Alex Bruhl, with both Archie brothers competing with Sandt to accumulate enough points for the Level 8 team title.
Josh Archie took first place overall in the Level 8 15-18 year old division with an average score of 68.350, while in the Level 8 12-14 year old division Sandt took third place overall (69.050) and Drew Archie seventh place overall (66.200) for the Level 8 title.
Perfect 10 Gymnastics was the only team to have three gymnasts in the Level 8 top 10, giving them enough points for the championship.
Also competing in the meet was Kirk Karnes in Level 5 10-11 year-old division, taking 11th place overall with a score of 47.300; Alex Bruhl in the Level 5 12-13 year-old division with an overall score of 50.475 and a third place count; and Trevor Stephens in the Level 6 10-11-year-old division with 10th place finish and a score of 44.800.
Each competitor accumulated points by taking on floor exercise, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and the high bar, with their scores in each event added together to note their individual standing and contribution to the team score mark.
The Perfect 10 squad will be competing again this weekend at Soka University in Aliso Viejo. Anyone interested in learning more about gymnastics or the Perfect 10 program are encouraged to contact coach and trainer Dean Archie at 822-7179 or via web at perfect10gymnastics.com.
