You may remember Michael Damian from his 20 years on The Young and the Restless, or you may know him as Theresa Moller's (aka Tracy Barnes, local musician) little brother. Or, you may not know him at all — yet.
Having recently returned to the long running TV series after an absence, Damien has also taken his acting career into the realm of filmmaking and directing. And his sisters, Tracy and Maria Weir Werth, and parents, Larry and Maria Weir and other family members couldn't be more supportive or proud.
The movie, Moondance Alexander, stars Kay Panabaker, Sasha Cohen and Don Johnson, and already is the recipient of seven awards, including the coveted Dove Award.
A special screening of this heart-warming movie will be held on Saturday, March 29, at 10 a.m. at The Hitching Post Theater in downtown Tehachapi, said Tracy.
“I wanted to do a fund raiser to benefit the Kern County Chapter of Right to Life,” Tracy shared. “At first I thought about doing a dinner, but then it came to me - Michael's movie. I called him and told him what I wanted to do, and he was all for it. The Hitching Post Theater graciously has donated theater space so all of the proceeds will benefit Right to Life.”
“It's sweet — like an old Walt Disney movie. One that everyone could enjoy,” Barnes said adding, “I think it's a movie tailor made for Tehachapi: A coming of age tale inspired by a true story of a young girl and a horse, and a mother-daughter relationship.”
Admission price is $5 in advance or $6 at the door, if there are any unsold tickets prior to the event, Tracy said. For advance tickets, call Tracy at 972-6263, or Maria at 822-4150. Tickets also will be on sale at St. Malachy's Church, Country Oaks Baptist Church and Mountain Bible Church, said Tracy.
Michael Damian and his wife, Janeen, will be on hand for the screening. The movie, a 20th Century Fox release, officially comes out in April and will go directly to DVD, Tracy said.
