The people of St. Malachy Catholic Church have strong tradition of faith, community and fellowship.
Faithful families took a leap of faith in 1899, and under diverse circumstances built a Catholic presence here. Generations later in 1938, families saw the need to accommodate growth, and again they built. Then in 1968, another generation of families provided the funds and support necessary to build the parish facilities we have enjoyed for 40 years.
Our church has been a place where generations have encountered God’s heart — His healing and peace.
For many in our church, this is a time of unity, vision and solidarity. The people of St. Malachy will build their church.
For this is the place where we come to express our worries, our pains, frustrations, dreams, our desires and our deepest gratitude to our Savior. What I\we do for St. Malachy in terms of this renovation project, we do for ourselves, our loved ones, our children, our grandchildren, our heritage and the future of a Catholic presence in Tehachapi.
As the family room is the heart of a home, this “family room” has been the heart of our church. After 40 years, growth has imposed a full schedule of demands on our church and dramatized its physical needs and limitations. Like generations before us, we will proclaim the dignity of our faith for generations to come, they deserve no less.
Will we celebrate mass in a beautiful renovated church? You bet we will.
