Susie Hubbard, Tehachapi's own award-winning rose gardener, helped get Save Tehachapi's Orphaned Pets, aka S.T.O.P., off the ground financially by donating approximately 80 of her rose bushes for the Petals for Pets fundraiser. Both S.T.O.P. members and volunteers worked side by side digging, wrapping, sorting, transporting and finally delivering the roses to all the pet-loving Tehachapians who had pre-ordered them.

The rose sale brought in more than $1,900, $500 of which is being set aside to help build a Tehachapi animal shelter.

“Obviously, it will take a lot more than that,” said Chelley Kitzmiller, S.T.O.P.'s first president, “but we have to start somewhere. We are a determined group of volunteers and we want to make a difference here in Tehachapi.”

The group is in need of foster homes for dogs and cats, volunteers to help the organization grow and donations or fundraising opportunities (like Susie's roses). Please call the S.T.O.P. Line at 823-4100 and leave a message. A member will return your call.
