Tehachapi Schools will begin Kindergarten registration on Monday, April 7 at 10 a.m. When you register your child, the State of California requires that you provide the child's birth certificate, social security card, and immunization record. Kindergartners must have also been examined by a medical doctor within six months of their first day of school. Proof of the examination must be submitted by the first day of school attendance. An oral health assessment (dental check-up) is required by May 31 in either kindergarten or first grade, whichever is his or her first year in public school.
All Kindergarten entrants in California must be up to date on their immunizations to attend school.
Immunizations that need to be indicated on your child's record are:
Polio 4 doses (If one dose is on or after the 4th birthday then only three doses are required.)
DTP/DtaP 5 doses (If one is on or after the 4th birthday then only four doses are required.)
MMR 2 doses - both on or after the first birthday
Hepatitis B 3 doses unless your doctor has the 2-dose vaccine which must be designated as a 2-dose vaccine
Varicella 1 dose after 1st birthday or signature of health care provider that your child had chicken pox.
To help families with the California requirements there will be Immunization Clinics sponsored by the Public Health Department in Tehachapi: 125 East F St. next to the Veteran's Hall. (661) 822-3005. Call for additional information.
The Kern County Public Health Department will also provide medical examinations specifically for kindergarten-age children. Appointments are required. Call 822-3005 for an appointment.
