Tehachapi High School sophomore Brandon Matchett recently carded a double eagle on Hole 5 during a practice round at Oak Tree Country Club.
Playing with teammate Tyler Carr, Matchett hit a driver and a seven iron to reach the cup on the 483-yard par 5 on March 8. Matchett has played golf for three years.
While the hole-in-one is a highly sought milepost of golf, according to Golf Digest the double eagle (a hole-in-two on a par 5 hole) is rarer with odds of six million to one as opposed to 13,000 to one for the ace.
Matchett and the THS golf team are set to travel to China Lake on Tuesday and then play in the South Sequoia League mini at Bakersfield’s Riverlakes on April 3.
