I believe there are many of us long-time Tehachapi-area residents who think of the Tehachapi of years-gone-by synonymously with Bill and Betty Mead. They were a big part of the warm and welcoming feeling of which Ben and I became aware soon after arriving here in 1988. Jon Hammond's wonderful article on Bill's life really hit me.
There are lot of us, I am sure, who feel Bill's passing as a very sad event in our community. We will miss him for so many reasons. But we are thankful that Bill was here and that Betty is still very much among us.
