Bernard was born in Iowa, and moved to Los Angeles, at a very young age. He attended schools in the Los Angeles area. After graduation, Bernard, went into the air conditioning and heating line of work and was a member of the Sheet Metal Union until retirement.
He knew his wife, Gloria, since high school and they were married in 1959. They relocated to Santa Clarita, and had two children, Dean and Deanna. Upon his retirement in 1994, they relocated to Tehachapi.
He enjoyed going to Laughlin and Las Vegas and made many trips there. He was known to his grandchildren as ‘YaYa’. he was a very loving grandfather and took his grandchildren on many, many trips to theme parks, beaches and mountains, and attended all their sports activities. He was a very generous and giving person.
He leaves his wife, Gloria, of Bear Valley Springs; son, Dean Nelsen, of Acton; daughter Deanna Vollmer, of Tehachapi; daughters from a previous marriage, Cathy Osborne and husband Kenney, of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Christy Nelsen, of Alpine, Calif.; his grandchildren, Deidra, Desirae, Daylynn, amanda, Melissa, Todd, Justin, and Jarret, and also five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Travis.
The Neptune Society handled the cremation and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
