Ten Mountain Softball players recorded hits in an offensive explosion last Thursday, with the end result securing Tehachapi’s first league win of the year 13-4 over Bakersfield Christian.

Bre Farinas and Michelle Baxter both recorded home runs, while Jackie Kunick, Michelle Baxter and Hannah Ricker had doubles.

Highlighting the scoring effort for the Lady Warriors was Farinias with four runs scored, Baxter with three runs scored, and Tarah Steinbach, Kearstyn Gilbert, Erin Golackson, Brittany St. John and Kunick all rounding the plate.

Against Taft, the Lady Warriors dropped a 4-1 decision to the ’Cats but still received strong play from Gilbert, St. John Farinas, who all had hits, with Farinas bringing in Tehachapi’s run.

Pitching for Tehachapi (8-6; 1-1 SSL) in the majority of both contests was Michelle Baxter, who had a 1.40 ERA against Bakersfield Christian and no earned runs against Taft, recording nine strikeouts in eight total innings.

Up this week for Lady Warriors softball will be contests against Arvin at home (Tuesday) and Shafter on the road (Thursday). Both games will start at 4 p.m.

Junior Varsity

The Lady Braves (4-1-1; 2-0 SSL) opened up South Sequoia League play this past week with a 9-3 win over Taft and a 12-1 victory over Bakersfield Christian.

Shayla Garland threw both games and picked up the wins, pitching 12 innings total and giving up only eight hits with 10 K's and only three walks.

Offensively for the ladies, Lacey Perez had four hits with three runs scored, McKenzie Eberle picked up four hits, including three doubles and scored four times, and Garland helped her own cause by logging four hits and scoring twice.

Other highlights included Laura Shoemaker tallying three hits and three RBIs, Stephanie Medina with three hits, six RBIs and a home run at Taft that cleared the fence.

"In all my years of coaching at the JV level, that is the first ball I've ever seen clear the fence at Taft,” said head coach Mike Heckathorn. “It was a pretty impressive shot.”

The Lady Braves continue SSL play, hosting Arvin on Tuesday and traveling to Shafter on Thursday.
