Shafter came into their week against Tehachapi with their biggest win of the season in an 8-6 win over previously league-unbeaten Bakersfield Christian.

Despite the impressive victory, the General’s peek came to a crashing fall against Mountain Baseball, with the Warriors cruising in a pair of victories, 4-0 and 19-4.

“We had most of our guys do a great job at the plate, showed good patience,” said head coach Dennis Costa. “We got a spark from all around our lineup, guys like Jimmy Lopez just went wild at bat.”

In Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Shafter, Brock Tessandori, Franky Rodriguez, Damian Halpin, and Robert Siegmund all scored for the Warriors, while Johnny Holguin picked up the win on the mound with a five-hit shutout with eight strikeouts
The latest outing with the Generals last Friday turned into a rout in a 19-4 showing, with 18 total hits recorded.

Tehachapi’s Sean Arbaut went 3-5 with a double, run scored, and five RBIs, Jimmy Lopez went 3-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, and seven RBIs, Johnny Holguin had two runs scored, Adrian Hurtado had two runs scored and an RBI, Jordan Beardsley went 2-2 with three runs scored, and Robert Siegmund went 2-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Also contributing at the plate were Trevor Burtz had a double with a run scored, Brock Tessandori went 2-2 with a runs scored, Robert Berryman recorded two RBIs, and Franky Rodriguez recorded a runs scored and a stolen base.

Ryan Rush struck out 10 batters in seven innings of work, giving up only two earned runs and four hits. Rush also struck out the side in the top of the seventh.
“We have lost every league game this season by one run, and you can find 1,000 things you could have done a little better when looking back at those games. But we’re looking forward,” added Costa. “The kids are upbeat and we still have an important couple of games this week. We want to continue what we’re doing.”

Up next for Tehachapi (6-14; 6-5 SSL) is a pair of contests against Bakersfield Christian, with the first game on Tuesday (home) and the second game on Friday (away). Both games will start at 4 p.m.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh and the game tied, Tehachapi took a thrilling victory over Shafter when Jacob Garness took a hit-by-pitch sending Chris Rush home and giving the Braves a 16-15 victory last Friday.

Tehachapi also defeated Shafter 9-7 earlier in the week to bring their overall record to 11-9 (7-4 SSL).

Scoring for the Braves in the Friday 16-15 win were Corey Torres (twice), Christian Torres, Anthony Urso (four times), Zach Pettit (three times), Zach St. John, Ryan Rush, Cody Miller, Jesse Olofson, and Jacob Garness (twice), who also recorded a homerun.
