Gymnasts compete in Reno Regional


Perfect 10 gymnasts Alex Bruhl, Anthony Sandt, and Josh Archie competed at the 2008 Region 1 Men's Gymnastics Championships at Reno, Nevada in early April, besting competition from California, Nevada, Arizona and Hawaii.


The entire Boys Team (Anthony Sandt, Josh Archie, Drew Archie, Alex Bruhl, Kirk Karnes, and Trevor Stevens) qualified to the State Meet this year, with Bruhl, Sandt, and Josh Archie qualifying to compete at Regionals and Bruhl qualifying in his very first year of competition. Sandt earned a sixth on Rings with an 11.9, eighth on High Bar (11.5), and 10th All-Around (71.1). Josh Archie earned second on floor with a 12.7, third on parallel-bars (12.2) and second All-Around (70.0), going on to the event finals to receive a silver medal on floor (11.6), silver on parallel-bars (12.05), silver on pommel (10.35), and a bronze medal on vault (12.7).


Ochsenrider and Taliulu to play in Arena Bowl


Tehachapi standout football players Ehren Ochsenrider (QB) and Alek Taliulu (LB) have been selected to play in the Edge Arena Bowl (formerly called the Blitz Bowl) this Friday. The game will feature the premiere athletes of Kern County in a ‘West vs. East’ format in an arena-style football game.


The game will be May 2, Friday (7 p.m.) at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield. Tickets can be purchased directly at the Arena box office any time during the week leading up to the game. The game will also be broadcasted live on ESPN 1230 on the AM dial.


Golf closes out season


Warrior golfer Jacob Booth finished second in the SSL individual rankings on the season with a 76.4 scoring average last week as the Warriors closed the season with a 450 team card in the SSL Finals at Riverlakes Ranch Golf Course in Bakersfield. Jared Steinbach was the low card for Tehachapi with a 78, followed by Booth with an 87, Bryan Burris with a 91, Kevin Greene with a 94, and Brandon Matchett bringing in a 100.


By carding below a 90 in the tournament, both Booth and Steinbach will join BCHS and Taft’s six-man squads in advancing to the area finals at Mifflin-Buena Vista next Monday.


Warrior Boosters thanks Rio Tinto Minerals


The THS Warrior Booster Club would like to thank another one of their 2007-2008 gold sponsors, Rio Tinto Minerals (Boron Operations), for their generous donation towards Tehachapi High School athletics.


The athlete of the month breakfast will be at Kelcy’s Restaurant this Saturday, May 3 at 7:30 a.m. to recognize April athlete-of-the-month honorees for THS sports. The Booster Club will also hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Kelcy’s Restaurant. Meetings are on the second Tuesday of every month and the public is encouraged to attend.
