Softball rolls over BCHS and Arvin
The Lady Warriors swept their season series over Bakersfield Christian and Arvin, taking 9-3 and 14-0 victories, respectively, to extend their record to 13-7 (6-2 SSL). Tehachapi was down 3-1 against the Eagles before a three-run fifth inning and five-run sixth inning sealed the game.
Bre Farinas recorded two runs and two doubles, Kelsey Kapitzke had two runs, three hits, and a double, and Michelle Baxter had a homerun, two RBIs, and two runs to lead Mountain Baseball. Kelsey Kapitzke started at pitcher, striking out nine batters in seven innings of work.
Thoms and Croy take second and third
Warrior tennis was well represented at the South Sequoia League championship last week, with Tyler Thoms taking runner-up championship honors and David Croy securing third place overall. Both players were instrumental in helping Tehachapi to a second place finish in league, securing the silver standing with a 7-2 win over Taft thanks to match victories from Tyler Thoms (7-6 [7-1], 6-1), David Croy (6-4, 6-4), Ryan Grisso (6-4, 6-0), Luke Boyd (2-6, 7-5, 11-9) in singles, and Thoms/Croy (7-6 [7-4], 6-2), Grisso/Marc Keehmer (6-1, 6-3), and Nick Timperio/Austin Zehr (7-6 [7-3], 2-6, 10-7) sweeping doubles.
Tehachapi (11-3; 7-3 SSL) will be in action in the CIF Division III playoffs this week. Seeding information is available at www.cifcs.org.
In the junior varsity division, Tehachapi capped their undefeated 12-0 (10-0 SSL) season with an all-Tehachapi singles final (Jimmy Boyd and Derrick Boutte) in the SSL championships, and Nathan Rowe and Joe Theisen taking the doubles SSL championship. Highlights of the junior varsity season will be available next week.
Tomahawk football sign-ups this Saturday
The Tomahawk Youth Football program will have their sign-up day for the upcoming summer/fall season this Saturday (May 10) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The location will be at the home field of the Tomahawks located at the Benz-Visco Youth and Cultural Park. The park is located on Tehachapi-Willow Springs Road just south of Highway 58.
