LAKE ISABELLA,  On Sunday May 4, at approximately 5:32 P.M.,
a call was received by the Kern County Fire Department for a person who
had suffered a leg injury while swinging on a rope swing above the Kern
River at China Gardens.

Upon arrival, fire crews gained access to the injured person who was
located approximately Âπ mile from the roadway. The victim was assessed
and found to have a severely broken leg. Due to the steep and rugged
terrain and the lack of access to the victim, fire crews used the
services of Kern County Fire Department Helicopter 408 to perform a
hoist rescue. The patient was secured to a backboard and placed in a
rescue stretcher before being raised into the helicopter.

Helicopter 408 then flew to Democrat Heliport, where a ground ambulance
was waiting to transport the victim to a local area hospital.

There were no reported injuries to rescuers.
