The May 19 Tehachapi City Council meeting was cut short due to a lack of a quorum. With only two council members present city business had to be tabled until the June 2 meeting. The council was able to proceed with non-business matters.
Tehachapi Police Explorer Post
The Tehachapi Police Explorer Post   is the city's local unit of the Boy Scouts of America Exploring program. It is aimed at young men and women 14 to21 years old that are interested in learning about a potential career on law enforcement.
Tehachapi City Police Chief Jeff Kermode said, “We currently have 17 active members in the post. Our Explorers have provided assistance with several community events, including Mountain festival, Earth day, THS football games and Main Street events.”
The explorers generally meet twice a week, receiving training on a variety of law enforcement related topics, as well as learning about leadership. physical fitness, and self-confidence. They recently traveled to the Imperial Valley for their first competition, earning trophies in seven events.
Our goal is to fund the post primarily through their own fund raisers and donations, with very little money coming from the Police department budget.
New reserve police officer
Lee Henning is most recent reserve officer to join the Tehachapi Police Department (TPD).
Henning works for Union Pacific Railroad (UP) as a Senior Special Agent II for the railroad police and is responsible for the entire San Joaquin Valley. He lives in Tehachapi with his wife Annette who works as Records Clerk for the city and is also a TPD Reserve Officer.
Henning said, “I live in the community and I want to give something back. When asked if I would be interested I jumped at the chance.
TPD Chief Jeff Kermode noted, “UP encourages its people to become reserves with local agencies. They were totally supportive.”
