Army Spc. Matt McCool's time at home is about to end. McCool has been ordered back to duty with the Warrior Transition unit at Fort Lewis, Washington.
The VFW held a thank you party for McCool on May 17 at the VFW hall downtown. ”
VFW Commander Mike Milton said, “We’ve been following Matt since he started blogging in the Tehachapi News. We try to do this, have a community pot luck, on special occasions like when a kid comes back from the desert. At the end of March we had one for Staff Sergeant Micah Stott who was home home on leave from Iraq.
McCool, who has four years yet to serve, will be undergoing occupational therapy and training at Fort Lewis. He will eventually return to Fort Polk, Louisiana and serve in the Rear Detachment until June 2009 when he will be transfered to Fort Erwin, California near Barstow.
McCool has been home recovering from injuries sustained in a roadside explosion from an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) in Baghdad, on March 25.
