The Tehachapi Police department wishes to inform all citizens of a new law taking effect on July 1, which pertains to vehicle driving procedures.
Vehicle Code 23123 prohibits ALL drivers from using a hand held wireless telephone while operating a motor vehivle. Hands-free devices and speaker phones are exceptions as is any call to an emergency provider.
Vehicle Code 23124  prohibits drivers under the age of 18 from using either a hand or hands-free device.
The law applies to both California and out of state drivers.
the Uniform bail and Penalty Schedule lists the fine for a first offense at $76.00. A second offense is $190.00.
