Former Tehachapi resident Davita Heavener was honored at the May 28th meeting of Tehachapi Squadron 46 of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP). In a small ceremony, squadron commander Lt Col Carol Schaubschlager presented Cadet Chief Master Sergeant Heavener with a citation from the Air Force Association. The citation is “in recognition of outstanding achievement in leadership and academic standing in the Civil Air Patrol.”
Lt Col Schaubschlager shared that C/CMSgt Heavener is very deserving of the award. “This citation acknowledges her support of CAP at squadron, group, and wing activities,” she said. Heavener was the cadet commander at the Group 6 camp last summer as well as the squadron cadet commander of the color guard unit that represented the group at wing competition. “She's a great role model for the younger cadets,” added Schaubschlager.
“A great role model and super achiever,” smiled Maj Bob Souza. In addition to maintaining a 4.0 grade point average, Heavener, who will soon turn 16, will be taking college level courses in addition to her high school curriculum. Her goal is to attend West Point Military Academy.
“I'm pretty elated!” said Heavener. She is only the second cadet to be honored at SQ 46 with the AFA citation, the first being former cadet Casey Schaubschlager. “I love CAP,” said Heavener. “It teaches us to be leaders, both as civilian and military.”
