On June 19th, you will have an opportunity to visit the oldest house in Tehachapi, the Historic Errea House, and take a look at some of the old photos from the Tehachapi Heritage League's archives. A special section of the exhibition will feature the history of Tehachapi schools and pages from old copies of The Tomahawk, the Tehachapi High School annual.
The Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social will be held on Thursday, June 19th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Historic Errea House, located at 311 Green Street. You can build your own ice cream sundae, or just have a scoop of delicious Baskin Robbins ice cream! There will a charge for the ice cream, but all other activities are free to the public.
Sit a spell and enjoy old-time music by musicians performing on the front porch, courtesy of Debbie Hand and Mountain Music. Stroll through the 1900s era Errea Garden or visit the museum across the street and see the new displays that are being installed.
“Moments in Time” is a themed exhibition from the extensive collection of Heritage League photographs, many of which have been donated by collectors as well as individuals. Nick Smirnoff, with a vast knowledge of photography, is serving as curator for this special showing of photographs, part of an ongoing series depicting the people and events that shaped the Tehachapi Valley. “Moments in Time” is a unique opportunity to see this photographic record.
New comers will want to see the photo exhibit, to learn more about the rich heritage that has brought Tehachapi from its early days, as a small stop along the tracks, to the growing city it is today, and to meet some of the local Tehachapi folks.
In addition to the local antiques donated by old Tehachapi families, there is an extensive collection of items donated by Merrily and Frank Flanagan of Collector's Eye Antiques. This collection is being assembled to furnish the Errea House from the 1900 to 1930 period when the house is fully restored.
Special showings by appointment can be arranged during the summer for civic, social and other interested groups. Anyone who wishes to donate photographs to the collection or to get more information about the event, please call Charles White at 972-0958.
