Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District (TVHD) is committed to providing smoke-free access to all its facilities and a smoke-free healthful environment for all its patients, visitors and staff. Effective July 1, the use of all tobacco products (cigarettes, pipes, smokeless tobacco, etc.) is prohibited within 20 feet or inside of all TVHD-owned buildings, properties, and vehicles.
This new policy is being implemented to recognize the health, safety and comfort benefits of smoke-free air. The U.S. Surgeon General has concluded that (1) secondhand smoke exposure causes disease and premature death in children and adults who do not smoke; (2) exposure of adults to secondhand smoke has immediate adverse effects on the cardiovascular system and causes coronary heart disease and lung cancer; (3) there is no risk-free level of exposure to secondhand smoke; and (4) establishing a smoke-free environment is the only effective way to ensure that secondhand smoke exposure does not occur in the workplace, because ventilation and other air cleaning technologies cannot completely control the exposure of non-smokers to secondhand smoke.
We appreciate your compliance with TVHD’s efforts towards a more healthful and safe environment for our patients, visitors and staff.
