On Tuesday, June 11, the Kern Lodge of the Knights of Pythias donated 31 youth bicycle helmets to the Tehachapi Police Department (TPD). The presentation was made to Chief Kermode by Kern Lodge members Ed Bennett, John Martinez, and Mason Bradshaw.
The helmets, which meet US Consumer Product Safety Commission standards, will be placed in TPD patrol cars and handed out to children who are seen riding without bicycle helmets. TPD will hand out the helmets until all have been given out.
The Knights of Pythias is a national fraternal organization, which was formed in Washington, DC, in 1864. The organization has chosen Cerebral Palsy as it primary charity; however, the local lodges support a variety of youth activities, including the bike helmet donation program. The Kern Lodge is the local lodge serving the Tehachapi area.
Contact TPD at 822-2222 if your child is in need of a helmet.
