Lauraine Snelling, the author or more than 60 best-selling novels, participated in the June 6, First Friday, Tehachapi Art Around Town event, meeting and greeting fans in Radio Shack and showing off her first two watercolor paintings.
Lauraine has been drawing and painting for a number of years in her limited spare time, but has never gone public with any of her art – until last night.
The busy author, whose book tour schedules don't allow her the volunteer time she would like to have, is a devoted animal lover and wanted to do something to help S.T.O.P., so she matted and framed two of her watercolors and took them to the Art Around Town event.
Her first painting – of three tulips – sold within 20 minutes after the event began.
“Lauraine was delighted,” says Chelley Kitzmiller, S.T.O.P. publicity chair. “It was the first time she's ever sold any of her art and she was thrilled that the money ($75) would be going to help the animals.”
A second painting, of a barn, is still available. Price $75.
“We were busy all night,” says Radio Shack owner Ted Kitzmiller. "Guy and Debbie Martin sang outside our door. Randy Horn, Pat Scheibel and my wife, Chelley, displayed their photography. It was a good night."
The next Art Around Town event will be the second Friday in July from 5 to 8 p.m.
