The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Tehachapi Mountain Branch Scholarship Fund for Women recently awarded $3,000 scholarships to Abigail Thorpe, Rachel Peckham, Becca Barnes, and Lily Warren-Diaz at their June 1st banquet.
Two $1,000 scholarships were presented for re-entry women. These scholarships are aimed at women who either took a break from or delayed entering college due to family or work needs. Award winners for 2008 include Sarah Delgado and Bernadette Nehorai. Delgado is working towards a nursing degree, and Nehorai is pursuing on her teaching credential.
Alexis Bartels and Joshua Meyers graduating 8th grade were also presented $100 cash awards for their math and science achievements.The students were selected by their teachers for their math and science achievements.
The local AAUW branch is one of the largest providers of local scholarships. The group awarded $14,200 in scholarships this year and since its inception has awarded over $137,000.
