The Tehachapi Mountain Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is pleased to announce two Named Gift Honoree who have been recognized for their extraordinary community support over the years. The awards were presented at the June 1 Scholarship Banquet and New Officer Installation held at Mountain View Estates.
Jim Jackson, a consistent and substantial donor to the Tehachapi Branch's Scholarship for Women, is a retired math Professor at UCLA. Jackson has been a member of AAUW for many years and is a lifelong supporter of high school graduates seeking college education.
Irene Hench is a staunch member of the Tehachapi Mountain Branch of AAUW as well. Since her joining in 1985, Hench has regularly held a number of board positions, but her most visible service was to lead the AAUW Mountain Festival Run for five years. Proceeds from the event went to support the Branch's Scholarship Fund for Women Over the years, the Fund has awarded over $200,000 in grants for students entering college, women who are re-entering college after an absence and promising middle school graduates.
The AAUW Educational Foundation is that part of national AAUW that provides fellowships for graduate and postgraduate students, gives research and development grants, community grants. The Tehachapi Mountain Branch is a strong supporter of the Educational Foundation and ranks among the top branches in California in per capita contributions. Significant donations from branches are recognized by the State AAUW through its Named Gift Honoree program.
