Tehachapi is not shying away from the competition in 2008, evident by an intense practice and game schedule to help prepare them for the upcoming fall season.
Coming off a 15-12 campaign and a section quarterfinal appearance, the Warriors are looking to improve upon last season’s results with a core group of returnees.
“We tasted a section championship two years ago and a lot of the guys on this team were apart of or saw that,” said head coach Chris Olofson. “The commitment level to get there is tough but we have the guys that know what it takes. We just have to put the work in to get there every time we hit the floor.”
The first test for Tehachapi was a challenging tournament in San Diego this past weekend, featuring match-ups against San Luis Obispo, Grossmont, Mission Hills, Scottsdale, El Capitan, Monte Vista, Ramona, Hoover, and other central and southern section prominent programs.
Players suiting up for Mountain Basketball in the off-season include Jordan Beardsley, JJ Balkar, Matt Bloom, Bert Hall, Justin Hansen, Jason Kerns, Kurtis Knudson, Conrad Mattly, Vince Ortiz, Dougan Patience, Austin Podratz, Mark Recalde, Franky Rodriguez, Matt Santos, Robert Siegmund, Derek Lange, Brock Tessandori, Christan and Corey Torres, and Jake Wesley.
“Perimeter shooting will be improved this year,” added Olofson. “But we still have a long way to go and a lot needs to be done. But we have a good group and we expect great things.”
Fans are encouraged to come watch the Warriors in a summer scrimmage against Desert High School on Tuesday, Jul-15 (4 p.m. JV, 6 p.m. Varsity) at the THS gym. Tehachapi will also hold a camp Jul-28 through Aug-2 at home.
