Relay For Life is part of the American Cancer Society, which is a nationwide organization that raises money to help find a cure for cancer. On the day of the event, July 12th, the community will come together and walk for those in memory and in honor of people who's lives have been touched by cancer.
This year I am co-captain of our team “Team Journey” which is in honor of my boyfriend Tj Colwell. When Tj was nine years old he was diagnosed with Leukemia which is any of several cancers of the bone marrow. You can imagine how devastating that is for a nine year old boy. For three years his parents, Michelle and Tom Colwell, spent countless hours at UCLA Medical Center while Tj was undergoing chemotherapy. After 5 years in remission, Tj was diagnosed with Leukemia for a second time. Shocked and discouraged, Tj and his family were yet determined to fight the disease. They did just that. Tj is now 23 years old and graduated in 2007 from Motorcycle Mechanics Institute, and has been in remission for 6 years and going strong. I am so proud and honored to do whatever I can to help find a cure for cancer.
This year for Relay the theme is “Celebrate Life” and this is how I want to celebrate my life. If you would like to participate in this wonderful event, it is being held on July 12, 2008 at Jacobson Middle School on the football field. If you would like to donate, please contact me at 661-822-1340. Thank you so much for your support in finding a cure for cancer
