On Sunday, July 20, in Philip Marx Central Park, the Arts Coalition will present a concert featuring T-POPS, Tehachapi’s pop orchestra, and the Scottish sounds of Tehachapi Mountain Pipes and Drums. The concerts are possible with the generous support of the City of Tehachapi, Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Parks District and local corporate sponsorship. We are also thankful for the appreciative response of the audiences, and with their support of the raffles, especially since half of the proceeds go toward the railroad depot restoration.
At 2 p.m. the concert will open with the impressive entrance of Tehachapi Mountain Pipes and Drums as they march into the park from E Street. Formed eight years ago with three members, the group has grown to over 25. Their charter is to promote the art of Scottish piping and drumming. The band maintains a full schedule of parades, memorials, weddings, funerals and public service events. They meet every Thursday in Tehachapi and offer free lessons with emphasis on fun and camaraderie.
From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tehachapi’s new pop orchestra, T-POPS, will perform. In two short years this group has become a popular addition to Tehachapi music events, performing each July 4th. Their concert will feature many pop songs including a Beach Boys medley and a fiddle concert, “Strings and Threads.”
With three digit heat in the desert and valley, Tehachapi’s Central Park, with the shade and cooling breezes, is the place to be on Sunday.
