We moved to Tehachapi several years ago after the company I work for relocated to Bakersfield even before then and I was commuting. We had many choices of cities to move to other than Tehachapi. We decided to move to Tehachapi because of the small town atmosphere and history of the town and area. We live approximately one mile from the train tracks and just love to hear that long, lonesome, whistle blow in the middle of the night or whenever. After all, this is the home of the World Famous Tehachapi Loop.
Newcomers should know this town prior to moving here and choose another town best suited for them without trying to change us to satisfy them. Small towns like Tehachapi need to keep their history and share it with generations to come as I am sure many longtime residents have done and continue to do and I have certainly taught my family just in the short time we have been here. It was such a shame when the Depot burnt down under such careless hands but luckily the depot was insured. The insurance money for the depot was specifically set up for a crisis like it is now going through. That money should and will only go to rebuilding our one and only Historical Train Depot to specifications as close as possible to the original.
The small talk of another parking lot in the middle of town even with other funds is ridiculous by any ones account. Try slowing up a little like small town life is and park several blocks away and walk or ride a bike down to town. Start enjoying the historical flavor of our town or move.
