The academic progress score in mathematics for Monroe High School was not a 1 percent decrease in the year 2007-2008, as reported by the school district and the Tehachapi News, but a 19 percent increase.
Chief Administrator of Instructional Services Lisa Gilbert told the Tehachapi Unified School District Board of Trustees Sept. 23 that she received a call from the Monroe principal, Chuck Monaco. “They were looking at the report, at the math score, and said, 'That's not right.' I said, 'I double-checked all the numbers.'
“But sure enough, I found that mistakenly I had used the year 05-06 in my calculations for the math score, not 06-07. Instead of the 1 percent decrease, it is a 19 percent increase.
“I apologize to Monroe and have made the correction. They worked hard to make that improvement. I was looking at a lot of numbers that week,” Gilbert said.
Gilbert prepared the complex 2008 Accountability Progress Report and presented it to the board Sept. 9.
Monroe, with 150 students, is the district's continuation and independent study school. The district’s adult school is supervised at the site.
Principal Monaco told the Tehachapi News, “Last year we had a great group of students. They came out here and worked really hard. This year we have just as good a group.”
