This is to advise that Kern County will experience a wind event this weekend.
Expect W to NW winds starting Thursday afternoon through Saturday Morning. Winds associated with a cold front will be 20-40 mph through the Tehachapi Mountains with stronger gusts. Temps will be much lower . The Relative Humidity will be higher than it has been due to the onshore flow. The dry condition of the fuels along with the winds could present extreme fire weather despite the low temps and higher RH.
On Sunday these winds will cease and an off shore flow will develop for Southern California. L.A. and Ventura County south can expect Santa Ana winds 20-40 with gusts to 50-60. Warmer and low RH. Winds will diminish Tuesday afternoon. Kern will not see the winds as strong but we should experience warmer temps and low RH.
For this event CAL Fire has approved special staffing for the Kern County Mountains: One Additional Task Force (Three Type 3 engines and one Water tender with leader).
This will run 10/10 0800 hrs through 10/11 1800 hrs. This Task Force will be in addition to resources that are already in place. It will be staffed and ready to go in 2 minutes or less to any fire in Tehachapi. Further augmentation may also be approved for adding addisational staffing at our local fire stations.
