A county official will recommend the demolition of the long-abandoned buildings at the former Golden Hills Country Club and Golf Course during a Kern County Board of Supervisors hearing scheduled for Jan. 27.
Golden Hills Director Mary Beth Garrison announced the hearing last week. She urged local residents to utilize the opportunity to speak out and inform county supervisors of the negative impact the derelict site has had upon the community.
“The hearing falls under what is called the ‘attractive nuisance’ law,” Garrison said.
“When a blighted or abandoned sight becomes so attractive that it elicits illegal behavior it must be mitigated permanently.”
Garrison said that complaints originated from concerned residents who frequently report dumping, trespassing and other illegal activities on the unfenced property.
Over the past 10 years of non-operation, hundreds of resident complaints filed against property owner, Ed Borges of AB Development, have resulted in frequent court imposed “clean-ups.” County efforts to keep the deteriorating buildings boarded up have been short-lived.
Upcoming editions of the Tehachapi News will review the history of the property, including past and currently pending lawsuits and hearings associated with the Golden Hills property. The hearing is at 2:00 p.m. Jan. 27 at in Bakersfield at 1115 Truxtun Ave., first floor board chambers.
