The Tehachapi High School junior varsity softball team logged 13 hits to defeat the Mojave Mustangs 15-5 last week in a non-league game played in California City. The victory improved the Lady Braves’ record to 5-2.
The Lady Braves scored four runs in the first inning, one in the third, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and seven in the seventh for the victory.
Mojave scored one run in the bottom of the first, three in the third and one in the fifth.
Leading the hitting for the Braves, Chelsea Maduena hit three for five, including a triple, for six RBIs and scored four runs. Krissy Whitman hit two for four with a double for two RBIs and scored three runs.
Anita Pimentel hit two for three with a double and two RBIs and two runs scored. Erika Gonzales finished with a single and three RBIs.
Pitching for the Lady Braves was Krissy Whitman, who got the victory. She went four innings allowing two hits, walked three, struck out four and allowed four runs. Chelsea Maduena entered the game in the fifth, striking out four Mustangs and walked four.
"It is still early," Braves coach Mike Heckathorn said. "But a good defense execution, some big hits, but some excellent small ball situations were executed to set up the big hit."
The Lady Braves are scheduled to travel to Rosamond on March 28 and then host Foothill on March 30 for non-league games.
