One of the Tehachapi News readers wrote about receiving a ticket at the high school. I have trouble understanding just what part of a red curb and a bunch of signs saying "No stopping, standing or parking" she didn't understand. I'll bet she's also the kind who parks in handicapped zones, justifying it with, "I'm only going to be a few minutes."

Several months ago an ambulance couldn't directly get to a student who was suffering from a collapsed lung, just because of cars stopping, standing and parked in the red zone — and refusing to move. The ambulance had to back out and go around to another entrance. That few minutes might have cost that young man his life — just so the parents weren't inconvenienced.

Parents need to find another pickup point, pull into a parking spot, or drive around, or will that inconvenience their child by making them walk a few feet.
