Gilbert Candela Sandoval
Sept. 10, 1961 – March 25, 2006Rosary was recited on Thursday, March 30, with a Mass of the Christian Burial celebrated on Friday, March 31, at St. Malachy Catholic Church for Gilbert Candela Sandoval, 44, who passed away on March 25 at his home in Bear Valley Springs.
Gilbert was born Sept. 10, 1961 in San Gabriel to Ralph and Elsie Sandoval. He graduated from Rosemead High School in June of 1981. Shortly thereafter, he joined the U.S. Air Force serving for four years then continuing his service for the next 17 years in the Air National Guard, Channel Islands-Camarillo Unit.
For the past 21 years, Gilbert was a correctional officer, a job he loved. At the California Correctional Institution, Gilbert made many friends with his fellow correctional officers and other staff. He will be greatly missed by a department that he served loyaly.
Gilbert married Tina Ruhlman on May 18, 1985 in Lompoc. They had three children who were everything to them. They spent a lot of family time with each other and family meant everything to Gilbert. He loved to watch the Dodgers play baseball, enjoyed reading history books on Indians and riding his mountain bike. He will be missed very much.
Gilbert is survived by his wife Tina Sandoval; son, James; daughters, Nicole and Jessica, all of Tehachapi; parents, Ralph and Elsie Sandoval; brother, Thomas Sandoval; sisters, Lisa Sandoval; and Rita Shancez and her husband Ramon, all of San Gabriel; nieces and godchildren, Gabrielle Santori and Dominique Sanchez; niece, Karina Sanchez; nephew and godchild, Shayne Santori; godchild, Joel Medina; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and many friends.
Father Joel Davadilla officiated at the service. Interment followed at Tehachapi Public Cemetery Westside. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
