Coming off an enormously successful year in which it captured top honors for group six Squadron Of The Year, the Commander’s Award and Newsletter Of The Year for its quarterly publication The Landing, Civil Air Patrol Squadron 84 has wasted no time in launching its 2006 recruiting campaign.
The Edwards AFB-based CAP squadron is once again looking for young men and women, ages 12 to 21, who are interested in participating in exciting and rewarding opportunities in the fields of aerospace education, cadet programs and emergency services, as well as senior members with a desire to support the squadron in leadership and administrative capacities.
Cadet squadron members may earn college scholarships in a variety of disciplines, as well as the opportunity to enlist in the Air Force at a higher pay grade and participate in orientation aircraft flights and other aviation and aerospace training classes.
Civil Air Patrol activities include the national Encampment in August, where cadets participate in a variety of flight competitions, as well as the Model Rocketry class at Edwards AFB this spring and the International Air Cadet Exchange program (IACE), offering its members the opportunity to meet and exchange CAP experiences with cadets from countries such as Sweden, Canada and Israel.
Founded in 1941, Civil Air Patrol is the official United States Air Force Auxiliary and boasts nearly 62,000 members nationwide. CAP members conduct 95 percent of all inland search and rescue missions in the United States annually, as well as assisting with local, state and national disaster relief efforts utilizing the most extensive communications network in the country.
“We had such a terrific year in 2005 with the substantial growth in our squadron membership, the promotional advancement of many of our cadets and, of course, our year-end honors,” remarked Squadron 84 Commander, Major Jason D. Markiewitz. “Our accomplishments in ’05 are a true reflection of the outstanding efforts of each and every one of our squadron cadets and senior members and we are certainly looking forward to continuing that momentum into an equally successful 2006.”
