The American Cancer Society Relay For Life in Tehachapi is just around the corner. This 24-hour “celebration of life” brings the Tehachapi community together in a unified effort to fight cancer.
Former and current cancer patients, their families, businesses, civic organizations and the public are invited to take part in this exciting team event. Relay For Life takes place on July 15 and 16 in Tehachapi.
Relay For Life is a family-oriented event where participants enjoy the camaraderie of a team and also raise funds to support the activities of the American Cancer Society. Teams from companies, places of worship, organizations, hospitals, and schools collect donations and can win individual and team prizes for their efforts.
“Relay For Life brings the progress against cancer to the forefront,” said Tracy Lankin, Tehachapi’s event chairman. “Many participants are our family, friends and neighbors who have dealt with cancer themselves. Their involvement is proof of the progress that has been not only reducing death rates, but also in the quality of life following cancer treatment.
“The funds raised enable us to continue our investment in the fight against cancer through research, education, advocacy and patient services,” said Lankin. Last year’s Tehachapi Relay for Life raised more than $183,000.
The next team captains meeting takes place Wednesday, April 12, at 6 p.m. at the Tehachapi Hospital conference room. April 12 is the early bird registration deadline. Teams registered by that date are eligible for a prize.
The Relay for Life committee is currently looking for local cancer survivors to participate in the Survivors Lap. If you are a survivor, or know of one, call Susan Mueller at 822-8017.
A survivor reception will be held on Thursday, June 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Mountain Bible Church, located at 630 Maple St. Survivors and their families are invited and will be registered for the relay. RSVP to Margie Williams at 822-8329.
Register your team today by calling Lori Fife at 822-8241.
