It seems Tehachapi has taken on an anti-truck attitude. Truck parking has been pretty well closed off.
There are places appropriate for a trucker to pull over and catch 40 winks if the city would allow it. For example, the new Best Western Motel has an unpaved adjacent lot for the purpose of truck parking but the city closed it off. The motel is losing potential business and more truckers are driving farther than they should before taking a rest.
Another example is is the large, flat, unpaved area on the north end of Tucker between the bridge over the tracks and the Highway 58 junction that is not doing anyone any good. With road base and gravel, it could serve as year-round truck parking.
Truckers who don’t need the services of a motel can still pull over for a rest.
I’m not talking about a full-blown truck terminal. That is another subject.
